Miele Dishwasher TouchControl Board Failure

Why this matters

Miele G7000 series dishwashers and the carry-over G6000 chassis use a capacitive TouchControl panel bonded to the inner door. The display PCB, the capacitive sensor array, and the ribbon cable that connects them to the main board are integrated into the door assembly. When the touch interface goes dark, glitches, or registers ghost touches, the diagnostic decision is whether the door-side PCB, the main board, or the ribbon cable is at fault, and that decision drives a wide spread in parts cost and labor. Misreading the failure mode here is the most common reason these calls go to a second visit.

Identify the chassis

Pull the model and SN/ tech number from the right side of the door, visible only with the door open. Service docs are split by chassis family and by year of production within the family; the wrong manual will list the wrong fault codes. Miele also distributes a chassis-specific tech sheet (sometimes inside the kickplate) that lists fault-code definitions and the major harness pinouts for that build.

Read the fault memory

Enter Customer Service Mode by holding the relevant function buttons (varies by panel generation; see the chassis tech sheet) while pressing Power. The display will cycle through stored fault codes, most recent first. Common ones for TouchControl complaints:

  • F70 family: water-detection fault, not TouchControl, do not chase
  • F78: circulation pump fault
  • F84, F85: door-side electronics fault, this is the TouchControl family
  • F239, F240: communication-bus fault between the door PCB and the main board

F84/F85 narrow you to the door assembly. F239/F240 point to the ribbon or the main board.

Symptom buckets

Display fully dark, no response. First, verify line voltage at the kickplate-side connector. Miele runs the door PCB off a low-voltage bus from the main board through the door-hinge harness. If the main board never powers the bus, the door PCB stays dark. Measure DC bus voltage at the cabinet-side connector before condemning the door.

Display lights but touches do not register, or register in the wrong location. Capacitive sensor or sensor calibration. The capacitive array recalibrates at power-up; a wet finger or a film of detergent residue on the glass during recalibration causes drift. Wipe clean, cycle power, retest. If the drift persists, the PCB is failed.

Ghost touches: buttons activate with no user input. Almost always a failed capacitive PCB or a failed gasket allowing moisture intrusion into the sensor stack. The PCB and the sensor are bonded; replace as an assembly.

Cycle starts but display freezes mid-cycle. Communication-bus fault. Pull the door-hinge harness and inspect every conductor for break-out. Miele door hinges flex 20,000+ cycles over a typical service life and the bus conductors fatigue.

Replacement decision: door assembly vs main board

If F84 or F85 is stored and the cabinet-side bus voltage is present and correct, replace the door electronics assembly. On most G-series chassis the assembly comes as a complete inner door panel; field-level board swaps inside the door are not supported by Miele.

If F239 or F240 is stored AND the cabinet-side bus voltage is missing or out of spec, replace the main board.

If both fault codes appear together, replace the harness first, retest, and only then decide between door and main board.

Procedure: door electronics assembly replacement

  1. Disconnect power at the breaker. Verify dead with a meter at the kickplate junction.
  2. Open the door fully. Remove the inner-door screws around the perimeter (typically 16 to 20 Torx, varies by chassis).
  3. Carefully separate the inner panel from the outer panel; the capacitive ribbon and the door-light harness route through the hinge.
  4. Disconnect the ribbon at the lower main-board side of the hinge tube.
  5. Install the new assembly. Route the ribbon identical to original; a folded ribbon will not survive the first hundred cycles.
  6. Reassemble.
  7. Restore power. The system performs a self-test on first power-up; observe for F84/F85 to NOT reappear.

Common false leads

Customer reports of "the buttons stopped working when I cleaned the front" almost always trace to detergent or vinegar residue on the bonded glass, not a true failure. Clean with a dry microfiber, cycle power, and retest before ordering parts.

A unit that drops F70 plus F84 together is leaking water into the door electronics. Find and stop the leak before replacing the door assembly or the new assembly will fail the same way.
