A Leviton Decora Smart no-neutral switch that drops off the app, flickers the controlled load, or refuses to join the network is failing because its design constraint is being violated. No-neutral smart switches power their electronics by trickling a tiny current through the connected load (or through a Leviton no-neutral feature), which puts hard requirements on the lamp load and the wiring. The most common service call is not a defective switch but an incompatible LED load, a missing minimum load, or a switch loop that genuinely has no usable neutral or no continuous load path. Symptom presentation

Reports include a switch that will not pair, drops connection intermittently, makes connected LEDs glow or flicker when off, or controls the load erratically. Ask: Is the wiring a true no-neutral switch loop (only a hot and the switched conductor in the box, white used as a switched leg) or a box with a neutral present? What is the connected lamp load - LED, incandescent, or a mix - and its total wattage? Which exact Leviton model is installed (the part number on the yoke or the box)? A no-neutral switch on too small an LED load is the single most common Decora Smart no-neutral failure.

Quick checks before isolation

Confirm the model and read its install guide for the neutral requirement and minimum/maximum load. In the box, identify the conductors: a true no-neutral install has line and switched-load only (often the white is the switched conductor and must be re-identified per NEC 200.7). Verify the switched conductor actually runs to the load and the load is a continuous path (a fully-open relay or a switched-neutral fixture breaks the trickle path).
